When you have entrepreneurial teens, you will see that they have so many ideas that it keeps their heads, and possibly yours spinning. One day they will have one business idea while the next may be a totally different story. That, however, is the beauty of teens’ versatility.

For example, a teen that has culinary interests and exceptional cooking abilities, can easily start a catering or baking service. These are usually in demand quite a lot, particularly when the cooking is exceptional. Starting out small and working up is generally the best way to begin a business of this type but you will be surprised at just how much a service such as this can expand.

Some teens adore children. They are thrilled to spend some of their spare time baby sitting. These teens have a ready made business right before them without even realizing it. A certain number of regular clients will keep this teen in spending money for as long as he or she may wish. This is one of those businesses that can simply drop into a teen’s lap.

Lawn work is something that can easily become a career in landscaping. Many teens love getting outdoors and working with the earth. They like to help create beautiful things in nature through planting, mowing, trimming, weeding, and many other things that improve the appearance of a piece of land. This can start with something as simple as mowing yards and trimming hedges and build up to a flourishing success.

These are by no means all of the ideas that can be turned into a business owned and operated by teens. In fact, being a teen entrepreneur is very helpful to that teen as many adults think it is amazing that a teen is trying to make something of his or her life. It is these adults who will often help a teen who is showing a promising business endeavor. Sometimes it really pays to be a teen with a lot of ideas and the energy to put them into practice. This is seen more and more every day.

If a teen is begining a business, there may not be a huge likelihood that he or she will become a victim of a scam, especially if there is an adult in the mix who is guiding the process. However, it’s never a waste of time to take a quick look at some of the many things out there that take advantage of anyone trying to start a new business.

One of the silliest, yet most successful scams for the perpetrators is envelope stuffing. It is always amazing that people still fall for this one. Even a 5 year old would probably understand that you will not be making $500 – $1,000 a week stuffing envelopes. So how is it that intelligent adults still fall for this one? The only reason that makes any sense at all is desperation. People who are desperate to make career changes in their lives will often ignore their own common sense. There is rarely, if ever, any reason for teens to be that desperate to start their own business, so they can afford to think this one through.

Processing rebates from home is another scam that seems to be growing in the number of victims that fall prey to it. You pay a “small one time fee” and you are sent the information you need to do this rebate processing job right from the comfort of your home. You are promised a very high commission on each one you successfully process. Again, this is one that never pans out. You’re out money that is now resting in the perpetrators bank account.

You may see many scam sites promising you information that will show you step by step how to become a millionaire. There will be huge homes and expensive cars on this website. You will be asked to pay some money up front for this information. The information, if you receive it at all, is something you could have found for free all on your own.

There are some helpful things to remember that will protect you from scammers. Rule number one is that if it sounds too good to be true, it IS. That is the Golden Rule of running your own business online. You’re not going to get rich over night. NOTHING works that way unless you happen to be a “trust fund baby” who collects on a certain birthday. That doesn’t really count.

Honestly, just how much fun is it when something is just handed to you? Doesn’t it feel better to work for the results you get? When you do your own research and put some dedicated work into an enterprise that proves to be successful, that is when you feel good. You have accomplished something important all on your own. Remembering this feeling will also help you avoid scams. A get rich quick scheme could never make you feel that you have met your personal goals

So, you have your business idea cultivated and your marketing methods ready and waiting. All that‘s left for you to do is come up with a catchy and enticing name for your business. This should be one of the most fun parts about your business venture but it’s also a vital part in drawing the right customers or clients to you.

When creating the special name for your business go for catchy and memorable rather than just generic. Don’t use a name that literally describes your product or service. Keep it short and simple so that people can remember it easily. Also, make sure it’s easy to pronounce. Who wants to use a service with a name that can’t even be said correctly? Try not to use geographical locations in the name because this can be very limiting in the areas that you attract customers or clients.

The first thing you need to do after getting an idea for a name is search to make sure that any name you have in mind is not already being used for another business. This is VERY important because you don’t want to start off with legal problems from the very beginning. People can be very sensitive about someone else “borrowing” the name of THEIR business however innocent that error might have been. You should come up with at least 3 names for your business that create excitement. List them in order of your preference. Then start searching.

When asking the all important question of what’s in a name, you may now have a better understanding of just how valuable this will be to the success of your business.

Many times teenagers come up with some of the most amazing ideas when it comes to business that it can be a real jaw dropper. Years ago it would not have been possible for them to have an original idea and really do a lot with promoting it. Depending on the era they were living in, they wouldn’t have had time to put into developing a business plan due to having to work on the farm, or their parents not taking them seriously. Happily, all of that is a thing of the past. Did you know that teenagers as young as 13 are actually running businesses right from their home computers? They are, and these businesses originated from ideas the teens thought of themselves. Having access to a computer right from your home has certainly changed the paths of many teenagers.

In order to make things a bit simpler when you have this blindingly brilliant idea, write everything down. Make a detailed outline of your idea and how it will fit into the business world. If you have any questions, or just kind of get stuck, go to someone you trust to give you some advice.

Once you have everything sorted, either build your own website, or find a professional to do it for you. If you are a bit short on money at first you should know that there are many ways to build a website for free, and it’s also made easy to do it yourself. As a temporary way to get your product out into the public, you may consider going that route.

The thing you need to remember above all else is that you were bright enough to think of this very unique business idea and will be savvy enough to make a success of it.

As a teen business owner there will most likely come a point in time where you will need a little time off. This may be due to something fun and special or an exam you need to study for. Either way, you can’t just let your business go unattended. So what will you do?

There are a couple of options that might work. You can ask your parents to watch your business for a bit while you do what you need or want to do. Maybe you have a brother or sister you would trust to take care of things in your absence. Either of these options could work out quite well for you.

Consider something else, though. Suppose you would like to have a regular day off or you need time periodically to take care of some extracurricular activities. Are you going to want to get your family involved in running your business on a regular basis? Will they WANT to do that? This is where you might want to come up with another option.

Something that could work out for you is taking on a partner. This person can be a relative, if you like, or a good friend who is just as passionate about your business as you are. Many successful companies have begun as partnerships and flourished into amazingly profitable ventures. There’s no reason that couldn’t work for you. Admittedly, you will need to find just the right person, but it’s also highly possible that the perfect person has been staring you in the face the whole time. Just open your eyes a little and see who might fit the bill.

Once you have decided to let someone else in on the fun, it could be a mutually advantageous endeavor. All of the work will not be completely on your one set of very capable shoulders. Think about it. You can have your very own home business AND a life! What could be a better reason that that to bring someone else on board?

Successful teen entrepreneurs share tips and techniques on how they emerged as successful entrepreneurs at a very young age. At the very young age of 12, some kids have managed to establish very profitable business adventures – all are successful in their own fields. These kids shared some tips that might help you create your own success story:

Who is your customer? Do not take your customer for granted. Know what they need, what they want, what they are hungry to get!
As a teen, you may already know that you want to run your very own business, and that you would prefer to start doing it now rather than later. In fact, you may be in such a hurry to get started that you may not have thought everything through as fully as you should have. Your excitement and impatience is understandable. However, there are a few things you should consider before making that HUGE leap into the business world.

First of all, is the business that you’re so eager to embark upon something that you can really sink your teeth into? Is it something that you love doing enough that you will be excited to work at it every day for as long as you own and operate the business? Think on this one very carefully before answering an unqualified and resounding YES! Depending on your current age, something you must understand is that things that are a vital part of your existence right now may no longer interest you in as little as 1 year from now.

There are some steps that you can take to see if you’re moving in the right direction to become an entrepreneur, but they require your patience and complete focus. Sit down and make a list of all the things you truly enjoy about the business idea you have. This part should be a long list and should take very little time to make. Now, make a list of things that may potentially get on your nerves about this idea. Be brutally honest with this part. If there’s anything on that list that may cause you to be less motivated in the future, you may want to reconsider this particular business idea.

Don’t be discouraged if your very first idea isn’t really THE ONE. There are always many more ideas just waiting to happen!
