Should Homeschooling Teens Start an Online Business?

More and more homeschooling parents are finding that it can be expensive having a college student.  We have taught our teens to be independent thinkers and should encourage them to find creative ways to help cover the expenses.

One great alternative that beats flipping burgers is to start an online business.  They have the advantage.  Today’s teens have grown up in a technology world.  They spend so much of their time online, why not turn that time into money that will help pay for their college? [Read more...]

Let People Care

Buisness World

When teens decide that they want to have their very own business there are many things that need to be discussed. Parents or adult guardians need to be fully involved in this entire process from the origin of the idea to the time it is put into action. This is the way to keep things in order and not let them get out of hand in any fashion.

Depending on what sort of business venture that is being entered into, there may be a need for adult permission to even have this business. That is a huge reason to have an adult involved in your business, if you are a teenager. The support and encouragement can provide a heavy boost in letting you know that you have someone believing in you and your efforts. [Read more...]

Teaching Teen Entrepreneurs Good Stewardship

Beyond creating teen entrepreneurs we must also teach our teens to be good stewards of their money.  What is the point of teaching them to be independent and creative in their business ventures if we do not teach them how to handle their finances?

Many college students today have no concept of money management.  They leave school with a huge debt from student loans and have started the path of “credit card = free money” living.

Buy today and pay later!  That is the code that so many Americans live by today.  And look at where we are heading.  Bankruptcy, loan defaults, and repossessions abound.  Why, because no one has ever taught us how to be good stewards of our money. [Read more...]

Learning How to Deal with People

Customer relationship

Something that all business owners need to master is the art of great customer service. Without a good grasp of human nature and how to deal with it, your business may bite the dust quite quickly. Or it may not go under, but it will certainly never reach its full potential if you don’t practice excellent customer service.

Teens are notorious for being either very outgoing or very shy. If you happen to fall into the shy category you will need a little work to get you accustomed to talking confidently to people. Your business, whatever you may choose to do, will depend on you being able to communicate effectively with your customers or clients.  Try taking part in some activities that will encourage you to speak to people. This can be an organization such as Toast Masters where the members write and deliver speeches at the meetings, or a simple debate class or club with other homeschool friends. [Read more...]

Expressing Your Opinions Politely

What do teens do?

Everyone has an opinion about most things in life and they usually have no problem expressing this opinion whether others want to hear it or not. It’s perfectly ok to express your opinion about something but make sure that you know how to do that. This is particularly important when running a business.

If your business is one that makes it necessary to deal with many types of people, you can bet that they are going to have opinions on everything from politics to religion and anything else you can think of. Many of these people are going to be loud in letting others know what they believe about certain things. They can also get obnoxious about it. [Read more...]

The Trash STILL Has to Be Taken Out

Scavenger

A situation that may arise at your home when you have a teen entrepreneur is that once said teen is invested in his or her own home business, there will not be time to do the routine and mundane chores that keep a house in working order. Little things like cleaning their room, taking out the trash, loading the dishwasher, and cleaning their bathroom may all just go by the wayside. Your teen may have entered the working world with a bang but now your house looks and smells like it’s been invaded by the Swamp Monster.

It’s totally understandable that your teen may be fully caught up in this new business venture, particularly if it’s the first time he or she has tried anything quite like this. You can be patient for short period of time to allow for adjustment. However, if it starts to seem as if you have suddenly become not only the chief cook and bottle washer but the ONLY one, it’s time to sit down and have a chat. [Read more...]

Email List

Incentive to subscribe to email list

Your favorite restaurant sends you an electronic postcard for a free birthday dessert. You get an email coupon from your dog groomer, offering Fluffy a free toenail clipping. The Apple Store sends you an email about the latest software to make your life easier. Across the Internet, around your neighborhood, through all industries, companies are using email lists to track, entice, and market to their customers. No matter what business you’re in, a customer list is literally your bread and butter.

Research shows that it’s infinitely easier – and cheaper – to sell to existing customers than to convince new prospects to buy. And when you market online via an email list, you circumvent many of the challenges of traditional direct mail – namely, cost. With email lists, you can manage and mail to thousands of contacts at the click of a button, for the fraction of the cost of “snail mail.” This special report will show you easy ways to manage and grow your own email list, resulting in bigger profits for your wallet and higher visibility for your business. As a teenager, a lot of times you can see things that adults miss. This may be due to their being so busy with work, families, and just life in general, and it’s not to say that they are deliberately ignoring things. However, many times teens have pointed out things that need to be confronted and resolved. It is this very ability that can point you in a wonderful direction for operating your very own business.

When you see that people are suffering from the pitiful way the economy is right now, including people who cannot afford clothes or even food, there are ways to help. One such business is the start of a thrift store. [Read more...]

Blogging for Money

Regine with WE MAKE MONEY NOT ART

Something that nearly all teens love to do is share their opinions. They just can’t seem to help themselves and it doesn’t matter if it’s through talking or writing. The important part is just getting their words out there where others will receive them.

It is this reason that blogging can be one of the perfect ways for teens to begin their own businesses. Blogs are so popular right now that, when operated in the right way, they can bring in money. As teens tend to be passionate about what they believe, it will be easy for them to keep up their blogs and tend to them on a daily basis. [Read more...]
